Psychology 2270: Learning Theory
Term Paper: Due December 03, 2021
Length: about 10 pages or more (double spaced)* plus Title
Page, Abstract and Reference page
The goal of this assignment is to apply the theories you've
studied this term to an actual problem many people face.
In this assignment you are asked to design a programme to
help someone improve their ability to learn mathematics. This should
be based on the theories we discussed in class and you will also be
explaining and justifying your choices by discussing how these theories
informed your methods in the program.
First, you should summarize
the important aspects of learning theory.
Be succinct but avoid being shallow.
You do not need to summarize the course, but you should introduce the
concepts you need to justify your design. Imagine
you were writing this for a smart audience who knew nothing about Psychology. You need to set up the ideas to convince them
your strategy will work.
You should then describe the design of your programme to
help someone improve their ability to learn mathematics. Mention strategies, specific methods, and
ways to think about the subject. Give enough detail that someone actually could
implement your programme if they chose to.
Finally, you should analyse your plan according to the
various theories you present in your summary and that we discussed throughout
the term. Identify learning
activities, motivation, study strategies etc. and justify your choices by referring
to the theories that best explain learning and by referring to the supporting data.
Remember, you should NOT assume the smart reader already
knows the theories and this is why you should begin with a summary of learning
theory and then go on to discuss in detail the aspects of the theory that
pertain to your learning environment.
You should format the paper using APA guidelines and be sure to cite all sources and
reference all sources you cite. Please be sure to organize the paper clearly (I
recommend detailed outline before you begin writing) and use my office hours
for assistance and review of outlines and drafts.
*I specify length only because people always ask. The REAL
answer is that it should be long enough to say what you need to say… no longer
and no shorter. If you say all you need to say in 9 pages you will not lose
grade points.
