SAMPLE OUTLINE  PAPER

SAMPLE CITATIONS

The American Psychological Association (APA) has a huge publication style guide with specifications for everything from margin size to sentence structure.  The APA style is one of the MAJOR formats accepted by many professional journals throughout the world.  It is required by Psychology Journals and many other disciplines as well (e.g., Education).  For my classes you do not need to adhere to the entire set of style specifications but I would like you to begin to learn the essentials.

Many of you will be writing papers in the future and will be required to conform to APA style.  Now is a good time to begin to familiarize yourself with the general format.   You can create a file template to use for future papers.

In particular I would like to see:

Title page (title, name, running head and short title)

Abstract (VERY DIFFICULT AND VERY IMPORTANT)  This should be written LAST!.

ALL sources cited properly within the text

ALL citations fully referenced (even WEB sources)

In addition give some thought to the structure of the paper and judiciously use headings and subheadings to help organize.  I STRONLY RECOMMEND THAT YOU CONSTRUCT A DETAILED (detailed = paragraph by paragraph) OUTLINE BEFORE YOU BEGIN WRITING!
